Local share prices closed 1.32 percent higher in today’s trading, a day after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo delivered her state of the nation address.

All shares recorded 1.34 percent up with industrial stocks soaring 6.73 percent on Tuesday followed by services with .84 percent up. Read more

Robinsons Land raises bond issue to P5 billion

Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) has decided to raise the size of its maiden peso-denominated retail bond issue to P5 billion from P3 billion after strong demand from both retail and institutional investors resulted in an oversubscription

RLC Chairman James Go said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange that the company was very pleased with the overwhelming and positive reception by investors to RLC’s debut in the local bond market. Read more

Philippine shares up .54%

The Philippine Stock Exchange index was up 0.54 percent on Friday’s trading with all shares ending high with 0.48 increase. Financials suffered a blow and dropped to -0.43 while Industrial stocks rallied to end the day with 1.03 percent up.

Total trades were 6,889 with a volume of 1,031,871,345. There were 51 advances and 45 declines. Unchanged hit 56.

GMA Network sets annual stockholders’ meeting

GMA Network Inc. will be holding its Annual Stockholders’ Meeting on May 20, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Studio 6 of GMA Network Studios, EDSA corner GMA Network Drive, Diliman, Quezon City.

Only stockholders of record as of April 20, 2009 are entitled to attend and vote in the said meeting, GMA’s disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. revealed.

Our culture teaches us to save in banks, buy real estate properties as investments. But there is a very little mention (if there’s any at all) about stocks trading. Are we Filipinos ready for it?

A good friend of mine who has been in stock trading for years said majority of Filipinos do not know of the stock market, much more of stock trading. Only less than 1% of the population are into stocks (which is considered one of the most active investment in the world). Read more

It was just recently that I get so interested with stock market trading. Don’t blame me for this. Our culture and tradition (financially speaking) have been teaching us to save through banks and only a few has been encouraging us to invest in stocks, the most active form of investment, I believe.
